Bracelet Size Guide

A bracelet that fits well feels invisible — it moves with you, sits comfortably, and never slides off or pinches. A bracelet that doesn't fit is one you'll stop wearing. Whether you're ordering a chain bracelet, bangle, or cuff, this guide will help you measure your wrist and choose the right size every time.

How to Measure Your Wrist

You need one thing: a flexible measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler).

  1. Wrap the tape around your wrist just below the wrist bone — the bony bump on the outside of your wrist. This is where a bracelet naturally sits.
  2. Pull it snug but not tight. You should be able to slide one finger underneath comfortably.
  3. Note the measurement in inches. This is your wrist size — not your bracelet size (we'll add length in the next step).

No measuring tape? Wrap a piece of string, ribbon, or a strip of paper around your wrist. Mark where it meets, then lay it flat against a ruler to get your measurement.

Wrist Size to Bracelet Size

Your bracelet size is your wrist measurement plus extra length for comfort. How much extra depends on how you like your bracelet to fit:

Fit Style Add to Wrist Size How It Feels
Snug + 0.25" Sits close to skin, minimal movement
Comfort (recommended) + 0.5" to 0.75" Moves slightly, stays in place
Loose + 1.0" Slides freely along the wrist

Example: If your wrist measures 6.5 inches and you prefer a comfort fit, your bracelet size is 7.0–7.25 inches.

Common Bracelet Sizes

Wrist Size Bracelet Size (Comfort Fit) Common For
5.5" 6.0"–6.25" Petite women
6.0" 6.5"–6.75" Small women
6.5" 7.0"–7.25" Average women (most common)
7.0" 7.5"–7.75" Larger women / smaller men
7.5" 8.0"–8.25" Average men
8.0" 8.5"–8.75" Larger men

The most commonly ordered women's bracelet size is 7 inches. If you're buying a gift and can't measure, 7" is a safe starting point for most women.

Sizing by Bracelet Type

Chain Bracelets

Chain bracelets are the most forgiving — they drape around the wrist and accommodate slight size variations. Use the comfort fit measurement (wrist + 0.5"–0.75"). If the chain has a large pendant or charm, go slightly longer so the weight doesn't pull it tight.

Bangles

Bangles slide over your hand, so sizing depends on your hand width — not just your wrist. To measure for a bangle, tuck your thumb against your pinky, measure the widest part of your hand, then divide by 3.14 to get the interior diameter. Most women wear a bangle with a 2.4"–2.6" interior diameter.

Cuffs

Cuffs have an opening and flex slightly to slide onto your wrist. They sit more firmly than chains. Measure your wrist and add 0.5"–1" for comfort. Because cuffs are rigid, you want enough room that the bracelet doesn't press into your skin when you bend your wrist.

Beaded / Stretch Bracelets

For stretch bracelets, order as close to your actual wrist measurement as possible. The elastic provides the extra give. Ordering too large means the bracelet will slide around and the elastic will stretch out faster.

Tips for Getting It Right

  • Measure at the end of the day. Wrists swell slightly during the day from activity and heat. An evening measurement ensures your bracelet will be comfortable all day.
  • Consider your dominant hand. Your dominant wrist is typically 0.25" larger than your non-dominant wrist. Measure the wrist you'll actually wear the bracelet on.
  • Account for weather. If you live somewhere hot, your wrist may swell in summer. A comfort fit gives you room for seasonal changes.
  • When in doubt, go slightly larger. A bracelet that's a touch loose is more comfortable than one that's too tight. Most chain bracelets can also be adjusted by a jeweler after purchase.
